60TH ANNIVERSARY NATIONAL SONG WRITING COMPETITION

Theme:
“Celebration of the past 60 Years and Looking Ahead to Another 60 Years”

Sub-theme:
“On Healthy Minds Rest a Healthy Nation”

Who may join?
1. Bonafide member of the Philippine Mental Health Association not later than August 10, 2010
2. Amateur songwriters
3. Thirteen years old and above
4. Filipino citizen
5. Contestant must not be in any way related to PMHA staff and board of trustees

Mechanics:
1. The melody and text/lyric of the song must be entirely original.

2. It must not have been entered in any song writing competition, published, recorded, and or released in the Philippines or abroad:

3. The song must not exceed 4 minutes and 30 seconds in length including intro and extro

4. The text/lyric can either be in Filipino or English

5. The text/lyric must be consistent with the given theme.

6. Each songwriter or a collaboration of songwriters (lyricist/s and composer/s) may submit only one entry.

7. From the pool of entries, the Screening Committee shall choose eight finalists (two from the National Office and two from each PMHA chapters)

8. The Creator/s (Composer/s; Lyricist/s) of the finalist-entries shall be informed by e-mail or mail.

9. For chapters: Chapters to send the video demo of their two finalists at PMHA National Office on or before 30 August

10. Finalists shall present their work and shall be judged during the Opening of the National Mental Health Week Celebration.

11. The minus one/instrumental accompaniment must be provided by the
entry creator/s

12. The decisions of both the Screening and Judging Committees shall be final

13. Prizes for winners are on per entry basis regardless of the number of people who work on the project

14. All entries shall become the property of Philippine Mental Health Association, and may be used for its continuing advocacy campaigns

Mechanics for the submission of entries:
1. Each entry must include the following:
- fully accomplished entry form with original signature(s) of songwriter/s
- photocopy of PMHA membership ID
- CD containing 1 song only indicating the title of the song on the case and on the CD itself
- For Chapters’ finalists: Demo CD in video format (1 song only indicating the title of the song on the case and on the CD itself ) and/or may send mp4 file at pmha_songwriting2010@yahoo.com
- Two (2) typewritten copies of the lyrics with the title of the song
- The complete Entry Packet must be delivered or sent through mail no later than August 30, 2010.

30%: Originality
30%: Melody (Musical quality)
40%: Relevance of the lyrics to the Theme

Time Table
1. Launch of Contest: 26 March 2010
2. Last day of submission of entries: 15 September 2010
3. National Office (N.O.) screening period: 16-24 September 2010
4. Finalists will be informed via mail/email on or before 20 September 2010
5. Finals will be on 28 September 2010 at Philippine Mental Health Association, No. 18 East Avenue, Quezon City
6. Awarding of winners will be during the Opening of the National Mental Health Week Celebration on 04 October 2010
