ANNOUNCEMENT!

The Philippine Mental Health Association shall spearhead the celebration of the 54th National Mental Health Week on 2 - 8  October 2004 and the 2004 World Mental Health Day. The theme of the celebration is: "The Relationship Between Physical and Mental Health: Co-occurring Disorders."

Activities lined up are:

02 October (Saturday)

  • 52nd Corporate Meeting and Election of the PMHA Board of Trustees

  • Launching of the PMHA Website

05 October (Tuesday)
  • Graduation ceremony of the "Family Life Enrichment Workshop (FLEW)" participants. Five families, including fathers, mothers, children and the other members of the families, attended the 16-module sessions which started in November 2003.

06 October (Wednesday)
  • Lecture-Forum on "Understanding Alzheimer's" in partnership with the Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (SCAP), Quezon City Chapter under the leadership of Councilor Jorge L. Banal, SCAP President and PMHA Board of Trustee. This is sponsored by Novaris Pharma. About 150 participants are expected to attend.

07 October (Thursday)
  • Lecture-Forum on "The Relationship Between Physical and Mental Health: Co-occurring Disorders." Topics to be discussed are: "Mind and Body Connection" and "Complementary and Alternative Fix." About 100 participants from the government, non-government organizations, hospitals, clinics, academe and other interested individuals are expected to attend.

09 October (Saturday)
  • Culmination activity of the "Family Support Group." Parents and caregivers were given skills and knowledge on how to take care of a family member with mental problems. Some of the topics discussed were the following: "Prevention of Mental Illness;" "Signs and Symptoms and Most Common Types of Mental Illness;" "Daily Activities of a Mentally Ill Patient;" "Treatment and Side Effects (Pharmaco Therapy and Psycho Therapy);" "The Financial Burden of Medications for the Families;" and others.
